In this post, I am making a texture sheet from polymer clay. I am selected henna inspired design. You can call it doodling as well. I have also displayed the finished piece using the texture sheet. #texturenglint #metalclay #tutorial

In my PMC jewelry class, I learned that most amazing part in making jewelry from metal clay is how easily you could apply various textures on it. So, I decided to design my own texture sheets for my jewelry. There are many methods & materials available for making texture tools for PMC. Few of them are silicon molds, clay stamps, texture sheets etc.

Tools:

Polymer clay (I have used Sculpy)

Clay gun

Clay cutter

Roller (and rolling guide) or pasta sheet

Work surface suitable for polymer clay

Take a required amount of clay and roll it up to 5 cards thickness. (If using pasta maker, set it to similar thickness) keep the sheet aside for now.

We’ll be making clay strings now. Insert some piece of clay into clay gun and using disk shown in the image. You can choose disk according to string thickness you want. Use it like syringe and you’ll get multiple strings at a time.

Keeps a final design drawing with you as reference for texture sheet design. Keep the earlier rolled sheet on flat non sticky surface. Best if you use surface which you can directly transfer in oven later (ceramic tile for example). Cut the strings according to the length you need. Apply them to rolled sheet. Lightly press the design as you replicate the henna pattern on the rolled sheet.

When you’re done, it’s time to bake it! Bake your clay according to manufacturer’s instructions.

I am using Sculpy here, so I have baked it at 135°c for 15 min.

Your texture sheet is ready now for use. Here is an example, how I used my texture sheet.

You can also catch up quick look on this tutorial on Pinterest. I’ll come up with other texture methods in my next posts. Happy claying…
